Upcoming Rabies & Microchip Clinic In Meaford

Staff

The Georgian Triangle Humane Society (GTHS), in partnership with the Municipality of Meaford and the Grey Bruce Health Unit, will be hosting a Rabies and Microchip Clinic on Saturday, March 21, at the Meaford Fire Hall (81 Stewart St.).

In addition to Rabies vaccinations and pet microchips, guests will have the opportunity to purchase dog licences for the Municipality of Meaford.

Not only is keeping your pet’s Rabies vaccinations up to date mandated by most municipalities, including Meaford, it could also help save the lives of your pets. Should your pet come into contact with a rabid animal, the vaccine will provide protection against the potentially fatal virus. In regards to public health, the more animals that are vaccinated against Rabies, the safer it is for our community members.

According the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), microchipped pets that go missing have a much greater chance of being reunited with their owners versus pets that are not microchipped; more specifically, dogs have a 30% greater chance and cats have close to a 40% greater chance. It’s important to note that pet microchips are not GPS locators – they simply carry ownership information that can be scanned by most rescue groups, veterinary offices, and animal control services. Unlike collars, which can break, microchips are always present once implanted into your pet.

The GTHS is excited to welcome all members of the public to this upcoming clinic. Attendees will be seen on a first come first served basis. This clinic is for cats and dogs only,” said the organization.
