Obituary: Alliston, Mary Annetta ‘Nettie’

Obituary

Obituary: Alliston, Mary Annetta ‘Nettie’Mary ‘Nettie’ Alliston (nee Harris), formerly of Meaford, passed away peacefully on August 28 in her 94th year.

She was predeceased by her husband Jack, the love of her life, on May 3, 2011. She is survived by her three children: Doug, Glenn, and Sue and their families. Her love for her family was deep and unconditional and she will be deeply missed by her children and their families. Nettie had the rare ability to brighten the day of everyone she met.

While visitors to Nettie and Jack’s Imperial Oil agency or the Meaford Express would surely have been treated to her beautiful smile and cheerful hello, those who knew Nettie through her many passions truly saw her at her best. Nettie’s legendary bowling ability was surpassed only by her skill with a deck of cards and her prowess at Bingo, and she brought her competitive spirit and infectious laugh to all activities. When she was taking a break from bowling and cards she could be found enjoying a puzzle or cheering on her Toronto Maple Leafs. Nettie’s motto was “The most precious gift you can give is your time”, and she will live on in the hearts of all those with whom she shared her gift.

Interment shall be private, however Nettie’s request for her remembrance is to go out and have some fun, as ‘we don’t stop playing because we grow old: we grow old because we stop playing.’

Condolences to the family may be expressed through the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford at www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca
