Meaford’s award-winning scarecrows will return again this year for the 23rd annual Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival.
The invasion’s new event chair Donna Earl and her executive finalized the details of this year’s theme during their first executive meeting of the year on February 5. Three hundred scarecrows will display their passion for books during the Scarecrows’ Book Invasion beginning early September.
“Choosing a theme is one of the exciting first steps for the executive and volunteers. It’s an important first step in creating the year’s line-up of scarecrows and vignettes,” said Earl. “The next step will be for the decorating committee to build on the idea that scarecrows love to read, as much as they love movies (2014), sports (2015), music (2016), Canadiana (2017), and all things western (2018).”
The date and time for this year’s parade is Friday, October 4, starting at 6 p.m. on Sykes Street followed by a family festival at the Rotary Harbour Pavilion, with free activities for the whole family, apple pie contest awards and auction, entertainment, and more.
