New Co-Ordinator For GTO Settling in to New Job

JulieBrownJadenCalvert270Less than one week into her position as co-ordinator of Golden Town Outreach, Julie Brown has a grasp of her role and an understanding of what strengths she is bringing to the job.

Julie has been hired to replace outgoing program co-ordinator Jaden Calvert, who is leaving Meaford in January to study medicine in Melbourne, Australia.

Julie’s work experience includes time as program development manager with Hope Haven Therapeutic Riding – experience that lends itself to the program development requirements of her new position. As Golden Town Outreach program co-ordinator, Julie will be responsible for coordinating programs such as the community cafe, Christmas hampers and Adopt-a-Star drives, emergency food and shelter, and the cooking, back-to-school backpack and youth recreation support programs. She will be responsible for volunteers, clients, and liaison with program partners and funding agencies.

The position is a permanent part-time position that will allow Julie the community contact that energizes her and at the same time, the flexibility to continue her home-based business as a house-stager. “Working from home is great but I am a people person,” she said. “I am used to working with volunteers and a board members. I am used to teamwork.

I have been missing community contact. This position will give me the bigger vision of the community where I live. Also, my background is business. I have marketing and social media skills that will allow me to search for efficiencies through technology while continuing to develop programs for Golden Town Outreach.”

Julie will oversee a volunteer base of 40-50 and upwards of 200 clients. There are 13 board members. Golden Town Outreach’s core program is the food bank that provides a three-day supply of food, once per month, to individuals and families who live in the Municipality of Meaford catchment area.
