7Cris Joan.DetroitR 270The Meaford Public Library and the Meaford Museum are pleased to host Maritime historians Cris Kohl and Joan Forsberg on Thursday, July 26, at 6:30 p.m. at Meaford Hall.

This husband-and-wife team are historians, divers, photographers, and authors with a passion for studying shipwrecks of the Great Lakes. This presentation will focus on shipwrecks in Georgian Bay.

Georgian Bay has been called ‘the 6th Great Lake’ due to its huge size — and it has claimed many shipwrecks, some tragic, all dramatic, during the course of its exciting maritime history, which peaked in the century from 1850 to 1950,” explained Cris Kohl.

The shipwreck stories will include: the Mary Ward, a popular site near Collingwood; the Griffon, the first ship on Lake Huron and assumed to have been lost somewhere in Georgian Bay; and the Nancy, a ship from the War of 1812. Many other shipwrecks will be included in the presentation. Copies of Cris Kohl’s and Joan Forsberg’s books and DVDs will be available for purchase at the event.

Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased in advance at the Meaford Public Library or the Meaford Museum. For more information, contact the Meaford Public Library at 519-538-1060 ext. 1123 or email libraryinfo@meaford.ca or the Meaford Museum at 519-538-5947 or email meafordmuseum@meaford.ca.
