The Municipality of Meaford has been successful in receiving a grant through the 2018/2019 MTO Connecting Links Program for rehabilitation of the Sykes Street South bridge.
The Ministry of Transportation informed the municipality that they have been awarded $825,000 to use towards rehabilitation of the Sykes Street South Bridge. The full cost of the rehabilitation is estimated at $917,000. The remaining $91,700 will be part of the 2019 Tax Supported Capital Budget. Additional works for the replacement of the existing watermain affixed to the bridge are not eligible under this program, and will be included in the 2019 Water Rate Supported Capital Budget.
“It is great news,” said Darcy Chapman, Director of Financial Services and Infrastructure Management. “Sykes Street is such an important connecting link in our area, and it is great to see support for this project.”
In 2018 staff will retain an engineering firm for the design and rehabilitation specifications, and a request for tender is expected to be issued in Spring 2019. Completion of the rehabilitation is forecast for Fall 2019.
