Meaford’s Mayor, councillors, and staff hosted the annual Mayor’s levee at the Meaford and St. Vincent Community Centre on Sunday, January 14.
In Canada, the New Year’s levees date back to the 1600s when New France fur traders gathered to pay tribute to the Crown by sharing a beverage with their government officials. In recent years, the Municipality of Meaford has observed the Mayor’s Levee on New Year’s Day, and more recently on a Sunday in early January. This year’s levee, like last year’s levee, took the form of a skating party with hot chocolate and refreshments.
