Great Rates on Local Golf

There are two types of golfers: those who like to play courses with varying degrees of challenge and those who are price conscious and are looking for value.

There are more than two dozen golf courses that are less than a one hour drive from Collingwood and the surrounding area. Some are private, but most are exclusively public courses that offer both seasoned and new golfers an enjoyable golf experience.

Everybody loves to get a good deal! Whether you’re out buying clothes or even out having a meal in a restaurant we are all conscious of price. We all like to feel special when we pay less for something than we expected.

This week I am going to recommend a few courses that are not only fun to play but also offer good value for your dollar.

Talisman Golf Course is located in the Beaver Valley just outside Kimberley. The golf course reopened in 2016 after the resort shut down for financial reasons.

Talisman is a 9 hole course that is perfect for both beginner and intermediate golfers. It is an easy walking course, situated beside the Beaver River with beautiful views of the magnificent Beaver Valley. The cost to play 9 holes is only $20 which includes HST. If you wish to play 18 holes the total cost is only $25. Power carts are available at an additional cost of $7 per person for 9 holes or $10.50 per person for 18 holes. You can play golf on Mondays at Talisman after 2 p.m. for only a Buck-a-Hole (minimum of 9 holes).

Meaford Golf Club also offers some great rates on golf if you like to play after 3 p.m. They offer a special twilight rate if you play between 3 and 6 p.m. and the rates are offered seven days of the week. A 9 hole twilight rate is only $28 including tax, and $35 for an 18 hole round. Power carts are available for twilight golfers for only $12 per person for 9 holes or $18 for an 18 hole round.

Batteaux Creek Golf Club is located just south of Collingwood on Hwy 124. It is a longer and more challenging course that also offers great value for avid golfers. If you like to walk and get your exercise you can play 18 holes between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., seven days a week for only $40. That makes the cost per hole only $2.50 when you include tax.

If you only wish to play 9 holes the rate is only $35 all day. Power carts are available if you need them at a cost of $12.49 per person. Taxes are applicable to the above rates.

Tomahawk Golf Course is an 18 hole executive par three course situated on the outskirts of Thornbury. It is a municipal course owned and operated by the town of Thornbury. All of the holes at Tomahawk are par three holes with an average length of between 100-115 yards. It is a great course for both juniors and beginners to play on. You only need a handful of clubs to play here, so if you like you can leave the rest of your clubs in the trunk while you play Tomahawk. Green fees are only $8 per person and the ‘honour system’ is still in existence at Tomahawk. Players are instructed to pay their green fee by depositing their money in the drop box. Tomahawk is a great little course to play with your friends and your entire family, both young and old!

To help preserve these local courses, make sure that you replace all your divots and repair all your ball marks on the green. Keeping all of our local courses in good shape will help attract new golfers to our area.

Remember to support local and play golf local!
