United Way Bruce Grey has announced the creation of a new disaster response fund, that will support the Bruce Grey community during times of need.
The SAFE (Supportive Assistance for Emergencies) Fund will be accessed by local agencies as needed to help individuals and families respond to and recover from unexpected situations.
It will begin with a balance of over $77,000 – the unspent dollars raised by United Way to support victims of the August 2015 arson fires.
“We were so grateful for the generosity of the Bruce Grey community in supporting their neighbours after the fires,” said Francesca Dobbyn, UWBG Executive Director. “With this new fund, we’re able to channel that spirit of community to assist even more people when a disaster strikes.”
United Way Bruce Grey will work with front-line agency Victim Services to assess needs following any disaster in the local community. The SAFE Fund will then be used to meet the identified needs of people who were affected.
