The Governor General of Canada, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston will be coming to Meaford for a special ceremony on Friday, May 20th.

His Excellency will participate in the unveiling ceremony at Meaford Hall of the Municipality’s new coats of arms and insignia.  Upon arrival in Meaford, His Excellency will be greeted by a guard of honour from the 4th Canadian Division Training Center. The ceremony will also include the presentation of a new Chain of Office, and a park naming in honour of the Governor General’s visit.

“We are honoured to be welcoming such a distinguished visitor” said Mayor Barb Clumpus. “It is very fitting for a ceremony that has so much meaning to our community. I look forward to seeing us all come together to celebrate our heritage and our future.”

Street closures will be in effect in and around Meaford Hall from 7 a.m. to noon.  This is a ticketed event and motorists should access the Meaford Hall parking lot before 9:30 a.m. and will be required to show their ticket.

Residents are encouraged to help welcome His Excellency on Sykes Street between Nelson and Collingwood beginning at 9:30 a.m.
