Knights Win Back to Back Games as They Prepare For Home Opener

Staff

The Knights of Meaford have gone through many changes this year. The team is no longer owned by the league, and are now owned by Meaford residents.Their new owner, Mike Fish, played for the OHL’s Owen Sound Attack, and new head coach, Brian Fish, played NCAA Division 1 hockey, and coached pro last year overseas.

The team is now practicing three hours per day, including weekends (up from only one hour per day, three days a week, last year). And the new and improved Knights of Meaford are proving why this year’s squad is a “must-see” around Grey County by sweeping Orangeville in their teo-game pre-season match-up.

Game one displayed The Knights speed and skill with the puck, leaving Orangeville defenders watching in awe as the Knights never trailed in the game, and finishing with a 4-2 win.

Local boy Jack Underhill scored a goal, and newcomer Austin Givens was unstoppable scoring a hat trick by netting three goals. Goaltenders Jaedon McConnell and Kevin Quinlin made some incredible saves to ensure the Knights’ victory, as they split net-minding duty.

Game two was a different story completely.

The Orangeville team came out hungry, and quite bitter after their first game defeat. They played a very physical game, and tried to out-muscle the Knights.

After two periods, Orangeville led 6-3. At intermission, coach Fish rallied the team. They and responded with three quick goals in the first five minutes. With only three minutes left in the game, returning Knight Brennan Watson scored the game winner. Goals were scored by Jack Underhill, Beau Drover, Kendall McAteer, Brennan Watson scored twice, as did new centre Austin Givens.

With spirits high after a gruelling twoweek training camp, and back-to-back wins, the team movse up to Meaford for good, getting ready for the home opener against Alliston on Sunday, September 14th, 7:00 p.m. at home in Meaford.

After the home opener, Knights’ home games will be every Thursday night.
