Recently, Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, announced that a total of $138,771 in federal funding through the Enabling Accessibility Fund will be received by six organizations to support local accessibility projects.
The Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF) is a federal Grants and Contributions program that supports capital costs of construction and renovations related to improving physical accessibility and safety for people with disabilities in Canadian communities and workplaces. The community accessibility stream of the EAF provides funding to eligible recipients for capital projects that improve accessibility. For this call for proposals, priority was given to projects that enhance access for children with disabilities (e.g. outdoor playgrounds), Veterans with disabilities, or seniors with disabilities.
The following organizations have received funding:
1. Municipality of Meaford – $ 3,250
- The project consists of installing an accessible pool lift at Blue Dolphin Pool.
2. Township of Chatsworth – $43,030
- The project consists of renovating the front entrance, constructing an exterior ramp, and installing automated door openers at the Keady Community Centre.
3. Cook Street Pentecostal Tabernacle – $18,927
- The project consists of renovating an existing space to include moveable tables and chairs.
4. St. George’s Anglican Church – $17,404
- The project consists of making an entrance accessible with automated door openers and new concrete.
5. Community Living Meaford – $31,785
- The project consists of constructing an exterior ramp, and building accessible washrooms.
6. Municipality of West Grey – $24,375
- The project consists of installing automated door openers at West Grey Recreation Facilities.
“I am very pleased to see that these local organizations will be receiving funding to support accessibility projects throughout Bruce and Grey,” said Miller. “The Enabling Accessibility Fund has provided funding to a number of successful projects in the area since its creation in 2007. I look forward to seeing the completion of these new projects.”
