On Saturday, August 23, from 12 to 5 PM, Meaford’s Bighead Hop farm invites all craft beer lovers to come out for the second annual Bighead Shindig.
Located in the hop yards at the farm, just outside Walters Falls, it’s a celebration of all things local and all things craft beer. With the hop plants in full bloom the Shindig is one last blast for hop farmer Nicholas Schaut before the real work of harvesting kicks in.
“We want to bring together brewers, growers and consumers to see how beer is made from field to glass,” says Schaut. “Instead of hosting a harvest gathering when the fields are bare, we celebrate at the start of harvest when the hops are in all their glory.”
Last year’s event was a huge success and this year’s will no doubt be bigger and better. If you’ve ever wanted to learn anything about beer, this is the place to do it.
The breweries pouring at this year’s event are Barnstormer Brewing, Beau’s All Natural Brewing, Church Key Brewing, The Collingwood Brewery, Junction Craft Brewing, Kilannan Brewing Company, MacLean’s Ales, Niagara Oast House Brewers, Northwinds Brewhouse, Sawdust City Brewery and Side Launch Brewing Co. The event also features three local cideries: Beaver Valley Cidery, Coffin Ridge Winery and Cidery and Duxbury’s Cidery.
Musicians Murray Smith and Friends, Moonshiner’s Daughter, Drew McIvor and the Vaudevillian will take the stage throughout the day. And local artist Steven White is installing his ‘Combine Project’ in the field.
Feast on local eats from food vendors Casero Taco Bus, Hurricane Hills Farms with their awesome local lamb burgers, Edale Bakery and others to complete the celebratory atmosphere.
Tickets are available for advance purchase only through the Bighead Shindig Facebook page or at eventbrite.com. For regular updates and brewery features check the Bighead Shindig Facebook page often.
