Editor,
I wonder if PeopleCare will be able to staff the new 128 bed LTC facility, given the severe shortage of RNs, RPNs and PSWs in the overall system. I doubt there are many people living here now who are underemployed PSWs, or current residents with nursing degrees waiting for the facility to open. (Any new PSWs will surely not be able to afford buying houses here.)
To compound the situation, there are usually ZERO available apartments or houses to rent, and those apartment facilities willing to run a waiting list have pretty long lists already.
Where will people live?
For that matter, where would employees at a place like the proposed SkyDev facility live?
Maybe SkyDev would eventually need to buy all the houses on Bridge Street and turn them into ‘company’ rooming houses?
The employee living situation is already at crisis level in Thornbury/Blue Mountains, with no affordable housing for people at the “less than optimum” wage levels paid by the resort/recreational industry.
