Visiting the Past with a Historical Fiction Author

The Meaford Public Library is pleased to welcome historical fiction author U.W. Baker to the library on Saturday, February 18, at 2 p.m.

Baker will give a presentation on her book Shades of Betrayal. The book follows the lives of characters in Poland, Germany, France, and England. Starting in peacetime, the saga unfolds over the six-year nightmare that ensues after Hitler invades Poland. Told from a shifting array of fascinating, disparate perspectives, Shades of Betrayal offers a unique view of World War II that explores the personal impact of war as well as the power and beauty of the human spirit and its capacity for love, hope, and healing.

Shades of Betrayal is Baker’s first novel and was inspired by her mother’s wedding dress made from a WWII parachute and many stories told by her parents of their lives in wartime Poland. The novel is based on real-life events and meticulous research.

Signed copies of Shades of Betrayal will be available for purchase at the event for $25. Cash, credit, or debit available. A portion of each sale will be donated to the Women’s Centre Grey Bruce.

This is a free event, but space is limited. Please register in advance at the Meaford Public Library. For more information, please contact the Meaford Public Library at 519-538-3500, or email libraryinfo@meaford.ca
