Temporary Closure of Beautiful Joe’s Leash Free Dog Park on July 4-5

Beautiful Joe’s Leash Free Dog Park located at 35 Grant Avenue in Meaford will be temporarily closed for two days, from July 4 – 5, 2022, so that an archaeological examination of the property can be done.

The planned work is a requirement of an Environmental Assessment Study that the Municipality is completing for an expansion to the Municipal Waste Water Treatment Plant. Increasing the capacity of the Municipal Waste Water Treatment Plant is a planned project that meets with Council’s priorities for investing in our infrastructure in order to meet the current and growing needs of our community.

ASI Heritage, a consulting firm that specializes in cultural heritage conservation, planning and management, is completing the archaeological examination in coordination with local Indigenous Communities. The leash free dog park will be closed because ASI Heritage requires physical inspection and digging holes in the park to determine if there are any archaeological resources present. All dug holes will be filled back in, making the park once again safe for use when re-opened on July 6, 2022.

Although the leash free dog park will not be available on July 4 and 5, there are many great trails that you and your dog can enjoy, see page 10 of the What Matters Community Guide, or find out more about trail locations by visiting www.meaford.ca/trails

We love dogs here in the Municipality of Meaford and understand the importance of a leash free dog park for our furry friends. In September 2013, the Municipality, in partnership with the Beautiful Joe Park Heritage Society, established this dog park as a temporary location to offer more great amenities to residents and visitors,” said the Municipality.

The current location of the leash free dog park is on Municipal land that has been secured for expanding the Municipal Waste Water Treatment Plant. A permanent location for a leash free dog park is still to be established and the Municipality will be reviewing several different options, with community input, and will identify a new home for the Beautiful Joe Leash Free Park in the coming months.
