Snowshoe Hike on Trout Hollow East

On Saturday, January 17, the Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy is having a significant event in our area.

The yearly regional snowshoe and hike happens in our backyard. The gathering will happen at the end of Muir St., where hikers usually park to access the east side trails. The event starts at 1 p.m. and goes to 4 p.m.

We will have access to the barn on the property adjacent to the end of Muir St. to stay out of the wind with a bonfire and hot chocolate and treats available,” said organizers. “There will be some snowshoes available if you don’t have any. Also with the crowd that we usually get, hiking the trails you may only need boots with slip-on ice creepers/crampons.”

The plan is to break the crowd up into different hikes and directions. Chris will take the adventure hike north along the river and Robert will do a history centered hike that will go south through the Royal Oak Grove to the old concrete power dam. From there you can look directly across into Trout Hollow where John Muir lived in 1864 to 1866.
