Sciensational Sssnakes at the Library in Owen Sound

Calling all young naturalists! Families are invited to come learn all about our slithering friends on Tuesday, August 13, from 2 – 3 p.m. at the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library (OSNGUPL). Children in Grades K-6 will enjoy this hands-on educational program about reptiles and amphibians, with a focus on native Ontario species and the importance of taking care of our natural world.

Join us in the Library’s Auditorium as we host an engaging talk with our friends from Sciensational Sssnakes. Learn about what it means to be cold-blooded, and all about snakes’ senses, habits, and behaviour. Snakes make perfect ambassadors for hands-on learning: they are safe, clean, and easy to handle. Children are given the opportunity to touch, hold, or even wear the snakes, with a focus on safety for both the animals and the participants,” said organizers.

Based out of Guelph, Sciensational Sssnakes was started by Jenny Pearce in 1994, with a goal of encouraging conservation through education. They currently maintain one of the most complete collections representing live Ontario herpetofauna in captivity in the province. In addition to their collection of native snakes, turtles, and frogs, Sciensational Sssnakes also maintains a substantial number of exotic species in their collection.

Spaces are limited, so don’t wait and buy your tickets now. Tickets are available at the Circulation Desk, at a cost of $5 per person.
