This year has been a bit of a challenge for me to get into the holiday spirit, but on Tuesday, November 22, that changed. It was Simply Unique’s wreath-making night at the Kin Hall at Memorial Park.
About 20 of us (all women – not sure why men aren’t interested?!?) were supplied with pre-tied green wreaths, ribbons, colourful balls of all sizes, sorts, and colours, and all manner of decorative options.
Not being an accomplished crafter (my mother was an amazing crafter, but it skipped me and my daughter inherited the crafting gene), it took me a while to figure out what and how to do it. Fortunately I went with a friend who is a very good crafter, and she helped guide me through the process.
Nancy of Simply Unique and her helpers were amazing, tying bows, offering ideas, and running back and forth with tools and additional decorations so that each wreath was as individual as its maker.
The banter among the women was a lot of fun, and something that I’ve missed over the last couple of years – none of it nasty, some of it saucy, and all of it made me chuckle, and even outright laugh.
Nancy also supplied wine, soft drinks, water, and a wonderful assortment of snacks showed up from Amici – samosas, flatbreads, pizzas – which kept us nibbling and sipping throughout the evening.
I now have a lovely wreath (if I do say so myself!) that I’ll ask Earl to hang on the front porch, and my holiday spirit is on its way to bringing back my Christmas cheer. Thank you, Nancy!
