Going forward, the Municipality absolutely needs the services of a professional recruiting firm to source candidates for senior staff positions. The money spent will be worth every penny.
No one on council or senior staff is qualified to do the necessary vetting and due diligence required.
Not just the council & staff we have now, all of them in the past 20-30 years as well.
There are a lot of “sort of” senior position candidates out there, either simply moving for higher pay, or getting out of situations in other jurisdictions where they have made serious gaffes.
Their resumes are padded and misleading. We seem to attract those a lot.
One thing all municipalities could do to help this never-ending daisy chain, is to stop giving favourable reviews when an unsatisfactory employee leaves.
