Reader Expresses Displeasure at TC Energy’s Donation to Plant Trees

To the Editor,

TransCanada Energy (TCE) continues to infiltrate every aspect of life in and around Grey County.

Most recently the Town of The Blue Mountains (TBM) has publicly thanked TCE for its donation of $10,000 to plant trees on TBM/s, Nippissing Ridge.

Herb Shields of TCE told me, “TCE at a corporate level has a public partnership and has that acknowledgement with Tree Canada…..and for the blue[sic] mountains[sic] site we did not select it. Regardless, for TBM we do not require acknowledgement.”

I asked, in several emails to TBM, why the Town thanked TCE for the $10,000, I was ‘finally’ told the truth, it “had an MOU for the project with Trees Canada….which explicitly stated the supporting sponsors be named in our communications.”

One might ask is nothing sacred…dark money for a few saplings? Who wins? The winner here is TransCanada Energy, which has made the Town of The Blue Mountains yet another one of its pawns.

We should all be ashamed of the Town of The Blue Mountains.
