The Municipality of Meaford will be Raising the Flag for Autism on April 6. April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day but due to Good Friday it is being celebrated on April 6 this year.
Autism Ontario’s Raise the Flag campaign, through the simple act of raising a flag, unites communities in recognizing World Autism Day. This day celebrates autistic people while bringing to light the systemic barriers that must be removed to create a more supportive and inclusive Ontario for them. Due to Covid there is no official ceremony but the flag will be flying high.
Through out the month of April several local organizations will be celebrating and increasing awareness about autism. Families for Autism will continue to install their communication boards in local parks, including Memorial Park. They continue to support families through many activities. Plans are underway for their fundraising golf tournament at Sauble Beach on September 25.
Events for Life will be sharing their Puzzle Art Project on social media. Each piece of art was made by a participant and will have a message about the art and a fact or two about autism.
Other local organizations may be planning special events during Autism Month so be prepared to learn more about these awesome individuals in our community and their journey with autism.
