Editor,
As a former Meaford resident I applaud Meaford for honouring indigenous people with a crosswalk painting, it shows you care.
The town should also consider changing its signage policy to include the indigenous translation of English names.
Other areas are embracing these thoughts.
Victoria, BC has already changed to dual information signs for street names and public buildings.
District of Saanich councillors voted Monday to move forward with officially changing the name of Mount Douglas Park to PKOLS (pronounced P’cawls).
The beautiful new Pexsisen (pronounced Puxx/see/sung) school in Langford is a Lekwungen and Sencoten word gifted to the school by the Songhees First Nation. It means the opening of hands.
Meaford council should think about more changes.
