OPP West Region Officers Lay Thousands of Charges Over Labour Day Long-Weekend

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region members were busy ensuring the safety of all drivers during the last long weekend traffic enforcement campaign of the summer.

Officers from OPP West Region’s 13 detachments laid a total of 2,426 charges, stemming from 2,577 traffic stops made from September 1 until the conclusion of the campaign on September 4, 2023.

This year’s campaign focused on the “Big Four” bad driving behaviours: aggressive driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving, and impaired driving. These four factors are the leading contributors to death, injury and property damage on Ontario roads and highways. OPP West Region Labour Day “Big Four” traffic campaign charges are below:

  • Speeding: 1,450 charges
  • Failure to wear a seatbelt: 128 charges
  • Distracted Driving: 31 charges
  • Impaired Driving: 54 charges

OPP WR Regional Command wish to thank those drivers who made the right choice to protect themselves, their families and their fellow motorists by driving safely,” said the OPP.
