Obituary: Ruppel, Gladys ‘Margaret’

Margaret passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre on Sunday, November 26 in her 83rd year.

Born in Brant Township on December 18, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Eva (nee Cadden) Swift.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Lawrence Ruppel on October 19, 2000.

Margaret was the loving and kind mother of Robert Ruppel (Janice Barbuto), Joe Ruppel (Lynne), Bernice Rennie (Steve), Laurie Ruppel (Edgar Rothwell), David Ruppel (Crystal), Melissa Ruppel, and predeceased by infant daughter Rosemarie. She will be remembered fondly by Debbie Shute (Garry) and Deb Black.

She was the cherished Grandma of Erin (Jason) Cressman, Lacey Ruppel (Chad McDonald), Jenna Scott (Jamie), Tyler Rennie (Erin), Stephanie Parks (Chris), Chevy Rennie (Aly), Ashley Rothwell, Becca, Morgan, and Taylor. Proud great-grandma of Max, Sophia, Brixton, Hudson, Logan, Landon, Kelsey, and Kylie.

Survived by her brother Jim Swift, and predeceased by siblings Lois, Jean, Shirley, Art, and Harold. She will be remembered fondly by sister-in-law Marlene Clough, and brother-in-law Carman (Ruth), sister-in-law Bernice Noble (late Carl), and many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Margaret will be remembered as one of the hardest working women in town. She loved to read and tend to her flower and vegetable gardens. Caring for others and her family meant the world to her, always putting them before herself. She was a great supporter to the local Avon Rep. Margaret absolutely adored her cats and treated them like family.

Margaret’s family will receive friends at the Ferguson Funeral Home on Thursday, November 30, from 5 until 8 p.m.

A funeral service to be held on Friday, December 1 at Olivet Baptist Church in Meaford at 11 a.m., with reception following.

A private family service of interment will take place at Elma Cemetery.
