Gail passed away suddenly and unexpectedly after a health incident on Sunday, May 18, 2025, on her 80th birthday.
Born in Markdale on May 18, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Blanche (nee Harvey) Johnston. Gail will be deeply missed by her best friend and husband of 59 years, Beverley ‘Bev’ Murray of Meaford.
She was the much loved and devoted mother of Randy Murray (Carolyn) and Grant Murray (Jamie). Gail was the proud grandma and ‘Super Fan’ of Alec, Genna, Ellyse, Dean, Eden, Heidi, and Jake.
She was predeceased by her sister Donna Hill and will be missed dearly by her brother-in-law Winston. Gail will be remembered fondly by her sisters-in-law Janice Murray (late Paul), Heather Murray (late Vernon), and Pauline English, and by many nieces, nephews, and their families. She was a wonderful aunt.
Gail was a very hard worker. She worked at Amerock for many years and then at the Meaford Hospital in Environmental Services. Gail enjoyed many sports, and was very knowledgeable about the rules and regulations. She enjoyed curling, baseball, and broomball as a player and coach. Gail was a dedicated and supportive coach for minor baseball for many years. She was a big hockey fan and has spent lots of time in chilly arenas over the years. Bev and Gail enjoyed running the family orchard together. Family and friends meant the world to Gail and she loved spending time together sharing a meal, playing cards, and showing her support at events and gatherings in the community. She looked forward to nice days cruising around in the convertible with the top down. Gail was a good cook and especially enjoyed baking pies and making homemade jam to share with family and friends. She was always there to offer an ear or a hand whenever someone was in need.
A private service will be conducted at the Ferguson Funeral Home followed by a service of committal and interment at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford.
All are welcome to a Celebration of Gail’s Life in The Galleries at the Meaford Hall on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 1 until 4 p.m.
