Obituary: Mills, Lovema Carolyn (née Cook)

December 17, 1936 ~ March 11, 2022

Carolyn passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Friday, March 11, 2022, at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre at the age of 85.

She was the beloved wife for 58 years of the late Ronald Mills.

Carolyn was the loving mother of Gregory Mills and Alyson (Kyle) Wickham, and the dearest grandmother to Owen and Adam.

Born on December 17, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Lovema (née Beckett) and Tom Cook. Carolyn was predeceased by her sister Marigay Wilson and will be remembered fondly by her brother-in-law Don Wilson. She will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Carolyn indulged in many passions throughout her life, some of which included gardening, reading, listening to music, and being an active member of the church both at Marshall Memorial United Church in Ancaster and then the Meaford United Church. She was a lifetime member of the U.C.W. and sang in the church choir alongside Ron while directed by her sister in Meaford. Carolyn taught primary school for a number of years in Hamilton before moving to Ancaster to raise a family. She and Ron loved to travel and go camping and visited many places across Canada and the United States. It wasn’t until in their retirement they ventured abroad, visiting such places as England, Scotland, Wales, Egypt, China, and Iceland.

Ron’s passing in 2017 was difficult for Carolyn as they had been best friends, side by side for 58 years. In 2018 Carolyn moved into the Golden Town Residential Community and continued to make new friends there. We give our heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre for their wonderful care and comradery.

In keeping with Carolyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A public service celebrating Carolyn’s life will be conducted at the Meaford United Church on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 11 o’clock. We ask that all Covid-19 rules and restrictions are respected to keep everybody safe.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Meaford Nursing Home Auxiliary or to the Meaford United Church (cheques only please) would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON, N4L 1B9, to whom arrangements have been entrusted. www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca
