Ivan passed away peacefully, entering his eternal reward in his 96th year at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre on Monday, August 7, 2023, with his beloved wife and best friend Marie by his side.
He was predeceased by his first wife Ella (nee Christensen) in 1997 and by his second wife Marie (nee Fitzsimmons) on August 8, 2023, the day after he passed.
Ivan was the much-loved father of Benny Kjiersdam and his wife Thelma, and was predeceased by his daughter Brenda Kjiersdam (Katherine). He was the proud grandfather of Ian, Hannah, Owen, Brogan, and Kenzie.
Ivan was the cherished stepfather of Robert Kennaway, Rodney Kennaway, Roxanne Elka, Randy Kennaway, Rosemary Hughes, and their families.
He is survived by his brother Villy Kjiersdam, and was predeceased by his siblings: Evald, Gunnar, Dagny, Anny, Kjeld, and his twin brother Erling Kjiersdam.
Born in Denmark on February 20, 1928, Ivan was a son of the late Hans and Emelie (nee Nielsen) Kjiersdam. Ivan immigrated to Canada in 1957, where he worked at Inco in Sudbury for 30 years. He had a deep faith in God and was heavily involved in ministry into his retirement. He enjoyed all types of sports, especially track, weightlifting, boxing, and bowling. Ivan’s family express their appreciation for the love and support he received from the Kennaway family over their 20 years of marriage.
A funeral service celebrating Marie and Ivan’s life will be conducted at the Cook Street Pentecostal Church in Meaford on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 12 noon, with visiting the hour prior to service.
