“I kept my love flowing until the wheels would not go ‘round.” ~ Dave Hardie
Dave Hardie, you will be dearly missed. The world shines less brightly since your passing on May 22, 2025, at Brightshores, Owen Sound. Your love of life, big heart, and easy laughter will long be remembered by family and friends—and from the community who knew you from boyhood. You left us too soon.
It could never be said that you wasted a day. Resourceful, practical, hardworking, and capable. A smart man. A good man. Keen to accomplish—always open and eager for friendly banter—ever a twinkle in your eye. Full of shenanigans in your younger years. The stories we could tell about Lippy.
You served your community well. Snowplowing, school bus driver, Superintendent of Memorial Park, Harbour Master, Superintendent of the Cemetery, Baseball Coach, Tennis Coach—all those kids you mentored through summer jobs. Best boss ever. A lover of sports—a mind for strategy and game—a jock at heart. Oh, how you loved that yellow Mustang (and the girls seemed to love it too)!
You will be forever cherished by your loving wife of 39 years, Mary (nee McFadden), and your daughter Maleia Fox (nee Bolton), and her husband Josh, and your grandchildren, Bladen and Jaden.
Survived by sister Sheila Hardie (Kevin), sister Janice (late Paul Murray), and brother Bruce Hardie—both who faithfully journeyed with you through the difficult time of your illness. Predeceased by parents Ross and Elizabeth Hardie, brother Ian (Nancy), Jim (Janice), and Stuart (Vicki). Fondly remembered by your nieces and nephews: Scott, Katie, Mark, Ben, Lisa, Jonathan, Lynn, Jason, Brock, Erika, Kiera, and their families.
Whenever you raise a glass of rum, tell a tale of a man we love and who will never be forgotten.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a casual gathering in remembrance of Dave at Grandma Lambe’s Barn on Highway 26 in Meaford on Sunday, July 6, 2025. Please drop by between 1 and 4 p.m., and bring a lawn chair for outdoor seating.
Special thanks to the medical team at the Owen Sound Hospital and Meaford Hospital.
As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford Hospital Foundation or Meaford Outreach to support local youth in sports would be appreciated, and may be made through Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON, N4L 1B9, to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
