Sonia passed away shortly after celebrating her 93rd birthday at the Meaford Hospital on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. She is survived by her three children, Melanie Earle, Shauna Earle, and Gregory Earle.
During her life she worked in Winnipeg and Toronto as a social worker as well as being mother to her three children, Melanie, Shauna, and Greg, and wife to her husband Frazer Earle.
Sonia met Frazer at the University of Manitoba while studying social work. They married and went on to pursue their respective careers, as well as raising a family of three.
Besides a busy career Sonia played mandolin in the Winnipeg Mandolin Orchestra. She also was an avid gardener, something she pursued when she retired and moved to Guelph, Ontario. She was an enthusiastic volunteer with the Guelph Arboretum.
After her husband passed away, she moved to Meaford where she has been living for the last 15 years. Sonia was inspired by the beauty of the Georgian Bay landscape and took up watercolour painting. She shared her painting interests with the Meaford painting group at Meaford Hall.
Perhaps the happiest times of her life were when she got her first of two Golden Retrievers – many people will remember Mom walking Kira or Niko around town and on the trails.
Sonia’s joy of life, positive outlook, and determined spirit will be greatly missed by all.
Family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, March 1, 2 until 4 p.m. at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford.
