It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vernon Floyd Bowhey on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at the age of 92.
Vern was born March 22, 1932, in Clarksburg, to Floyd and Orel (nee Lougheed) Bowhey.
He was a loving older brother to Larry and was predeceased by two older siblings Leith and Thelma.
In 1951 Vern married his love Violet and together they raised two children and shared 46 years of marriage until her passing. Vern was blessed to find love a second time and married Laraine (nee Ashby) in 2000. He is remembered as a loving father to Linda Teed (Gene Johnston) and Rick Bowhey (Terri Bowhey), and we are comforted to know that he will be met in Heaven by his son-in-law Jerry Teed.
He was a cherished Poppa to Melanie (Paul), Amy (Jeremy), Katelyn, and Sarah (Mark), and great-grandpa to Zachary, Mikayla, Megan, Shae, Drew, Jack, Luke, Madison, and Tessa. He will be fondly remembered by Laraine’s kids Terry (Tracey) and Connie and their extended families.
Vern lived a full life. He was a member of the 10th line rifle club and Blue Ridge Sportsman Club for years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and his kids and grandkids can remember his tales of the hunt camp and latest catches. He loved to take his 4-wheeler on the moose hunt and did that right until 2017. Anyone who knew Vern well knew that he was happiest outdoors and active.
Vern had a great sense of humour and he shared jokes and stories and played Euchre and bingo at the Meaford Long Term Care Home right up until his last days. Although we may share a tear, we are grateful for our time together and for 92 years well lived.
A funeral service will be conducted at Meaford United Church on October 11, 2024, at 11 a.m. with visiting the hour prior. A private family service of committal and interment will take place at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery.
As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford Nursing Home Auxiliary ‘Activity Centre’ (cheques only please, this charity does not use Visa or Mastercard) would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON, N4L 1B9, to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
