Mayor Won't Seek Re-Election

richardson 225Meaford will have a new mayor after the October municipal election. Mayor Francis Richardson advised his fellow councillors during the first council meeting of the year on January 13 that he would not seek re-election.

After the meeting Mayor Richardson told The Independent that he felt it was time to step aside after helping to fix the financial woes in Meaford which the Mayor conceded were partly his responsibility.

MPP Walker Touts Million Jobs Plan

walker official 2013 225Local MPP Bill Walker says the province will get a chance to adopt a plan for a million new jobs and increase take-home pay for hard-working Ontarians when the legislature resumes next month.

Walker’s comments followed the release of PC party leader Tim Hudak’s Million Jobs Act, to be introduced at Queen’s Park on February 18 at the earliest.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have reported significantly fewer impaired driving charge and Warn Range Suspension totals for their 2013 Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Campaign.

Know The Law & Get Trained Before You Ride

SnowmobilesOn Thursday, January 2, 2014, Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted motorized snow vehicle patrols on Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club (OFSC) Trails in the Municipality of Meaford and the Township of Chatsworth. 

As a result, 15 snowmobiles were checked, in which 1 charge and 4 warnings were issued under the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act (MSVA) as well as a warning under the Trespass to Property Act (TPA).
