Meaford Theatre Company to Stage Romantic Comedy at Woodford Hall

The Meaford Theatre Company is ready to entertain you with another fantastic live theatre production. The hilarious romantic comedy is called Looking. It is the brainchild of one of Canada’s premier playwrights, Norm Foster. As you may remember, the Meaford Theatre Company has produced two other Foster plays called Self Help and Ladies Foursome.

Looking is a romantic comedy that deals with the efforts by two middle-aged divorcees to find someone with whom to have a meaningful relationship. They are lonely and are struggling with how to get back into the dating game once again. To help them along, they each engage a friend to act as a buffer against the possibility of a left turn from the right lane on a four-lane blind date roadway. It is a rocky road for our two principal seekers and there is not a lot of hope as the first date unfolds. With Norm Foster’s creative twists and turns, the road straightens out eventually and true love is found (sort of).

The cast consists of an OR nurse named Val (Kelly Ward) who, along with the bumbling Rental Unit manager Andy (Jackie Laidlaw) reach out through the personals to find a significant other to fill the relationship gaps in their lives. They are joined by their respective bffs Nina (a cop played by Corinne McGowan) and Matt (a local jazz radio DJ, played by Bryan James) who, with great trepidation and reluctance are along for the ride.

The play is directed by Kim Ransom (Hockey Mom, Hockey Dad, Guys in the Garage, Stag and Doe, He Won’t Come in from the Barn, Kids productions, etc.), produced by Wendy Wilburn (Self Help), along with Helen Solmes as the stage manager (Self Help and Kids productions) and Paul Blythe on lights and sound (He Won’t Come in from the Barn).

The play takes place in the intimate Woodford Hall from November 28, 29, and 30, and again December 5, 6, 7 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be bought on line at 3common.com/meafordtheatrecompany or at the Craig Gallery in Meaford or at the door.
