In early June, Meaford resident Chuck Gouett embarked upon a ‘bucket list’ journey with a plan to drive from St. John’s, Nfld. to Victoria, BC, before heading south to the United States.
Gouett reached Victoria on June 29, after 19 days, and 9,288 kilometres on the road. He is now heading toward San Rafael, California.
The 86-year-old was a former member of the RCMP, and he planned to visit his retired colleagues along the way as he crossed Canada.
Gouett told The Independent in May that, after arriving in Victoria at the end of June, he planned to travel down through the United States to San Francisco and on to New Orleans, where he will attend a cooking school for a few days. He will then return to Meaford in late July.
The entire trip will be approximately 17,000 km, and will take roughly seven weeks to complete.
