This August marks a remarkable milestone for our community. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 32 is celebrating 100 years of service, sacrifice, and community, and we invite everyone to help us celebrate this historic occasion on Saturday, August 15.
For a century, the Meaford Legion has honoured the men and women who served our country while supporting veterans, their families, youth programs, seniors, local charities, and countless community events. This anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate that proud history while looking ahead to the next hundred years. Every family in Meaford has, in one way or another, been touched by the sacrifices of those who served or by the community work of the Legion. This anniversary belongs to all of us.
The day begins with the rededication of the beautifully restored Meaford Cenotaph in front of Town Hall at 10 a.m. Following the ceremony, we hope every current and former member of Branch 32 will gather on the steps of Town Hall for a commemorative ‘family portrait’ marking our 100th anniversary. The Centennial Committee would be delighted to see as many members as possible take part in this once-in-a-lifetime photograph.
In the evening, the celebration continues with a special anniversary banquet at the Meaford & St. Vincent Community Centre. This event is open not only to Legion members but to everyone in our community. Whether you have been a member for decades, have a family connection to the Legion, or simply wish to celebrate this important milestone with us, we would be honoured to have you join us.
Our special guests, Steve Rice and Tony Bell, will share stories highlighting the many ways the Legion has served our community over the past century and the important role it continues to play today.
