Lawn Bowling News

National Lawn Bowls Day was celebrated at the Meaford Lawn Bowling Club on Saturday, June 3.

Members of the executive hosted an open house between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. It was come when you can, and stay to play. Many members brought their families who had not played before, so there was abundant teaching and learning happening.

New participants gained an understanding of why their family member love the game and acquired some new skills as well. The club anticipates that this will be an annual event for Bowls Canada Boulingrin and Meaford will definitely be participating.

If you missed this opportunity for an introduction to the game, come out Monday and Wednesday morning at 9:30, or Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. It is free to try. More details can be found on the website: https://www.meafordlawnbowling.ca/

Rotary Club Open Pairs Tournament

The Annual Meaford Rotary Club Lawn Bowling Tournament was held at the Club on Saturday, June 10.

Meaford was well represented among out-of-towners from Chesley, Owen Sound, and Collingwood, and the Meaford teams took the top three places. It was Open Pairs so the teams of two could be two males, two females, or one of each. The father/son team of Brad and Owen Tichbourne placed first. Murray Dougherty and Lynne Lundberg were second and Dan Dekking and Donna Eagles placed third.

Despite the current drought situation, the greens are in great shape. Dan Dekking and his crew are responsible for the wonderful condition of the greens. Dan and the others are all volunteers and deserve recognition.

The club still has room for members. Minimum age is 6 for the Junior summer program and 12 years of age for regular bowling.

There is no maximum age because players just keep going and going! Try it for free. info@meafordlawnbowling.ca, https://www.meafordlawnbowling.ca/, https://www.facebook.com/meafordlawnbowlingclub
