The Meaford Lawn Bowling Club’s facility experienced issues caused by ice from the river during the recent ice jam as the river entered the inner harbour.
Much of the ice was pushed up the riverbanks, and the lawn bowling club was in its path. On its way, the ice crushed 50 feet of chain link fence and scattered debris and huge chunks of ice over the pristine lawn bowling green.
Since then, Club members had been waiting anxiously for the ice to melt, in order to survey the damage and hopefully rescue the green. Thankfully, the ice chunks did not do more than leave a mess behind. So on Friday, Brad Tichbourne, the club greenskeeper, coordinated a crew of volunteers with rakes to start the clean up. The clubhouse and storage sheds will be tackled next and then the grounds around the green.
Everything will be ready by mid to late May. Schedules and fees will be posted soon, and questions should be directed to: meafordlawnbowling@gmail.com.
