Keep Cannabis Stored and Out of Reach When on the Roads

On December 5, 2023, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) Program on Grey Road 12 in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

A motor vehicle entered the Festive RIDE Program at which time a traffic stop was conducted.

As a result, the driver, a 20-year-old from Clinton was warned for ‘drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available’.

The OPP wants to remind motorists that the Cannabis Control Act (CCA) 12(1) states “No person shall drive or have the care or control of a vehicle or boat, whether or not it is in motion, while any cannabis is contained in the vehicle or boat. Exception, (a) is in its original packaging and has not been opened; or (b) is packed in baggage that is fastened closed or is not otherwise readily available to any person in the vehicle or boat.

The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education.
