Independent Bookstore Day With the Poets Laureate

Current and past Owen Sound Poets Laureate will gather at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at the Ginger Press in downtown Owen Sound in celebration of Independent Bookstore Day. This special event will feature poetry readings, book talks and signings, and updates of what the poets laureate and The Ginger Press are working on.

Established in 2007, the Owen Sound Poet Laureate is a program of the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library, supporting and highlighting the literary arts in this area. Totally self-funded by generous community sponsors, poets laureate write poetry about the area, compose poems for special events, participate in public performances, work with local writers, and act as literary ambassadors for the city and the region.

Established in 1978, the Ginger Press is one of the oldest independent bookshops in Canada. In 1987, the Ginger Press began publishing books about this area to fill the gap in local books. Since then it has published over 150 books; the bookshop now carries only books published by local authors about this area.

Everyone is welcome to attend; there is no charge.
