Impaired Driver Involved In Collision

On December 26, 2020 at 7:25 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision involving a sport utility vehicle that was stuck in the ditch on the 2nd Concession, near Sideroad 22, in the Municipality of Meaford.

OPP officers attended the scene and spoke with the driver, who failed a roadside screening device. The driver was arrested and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Chatsworth. A breath test recorded readings over twice the legal limit of 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. 

Grey Bruce OPP have charged Shane Gurney, 48 years-of-age, from Owen Sound with operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating was towed and impounded for seven days.

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on February 18, 2021.
