Help Celebrate ‘Libraries for Life’ During Ontario Public Library Week

From Sunday, October 15 to Saturday, October 21, the Meaford Public Library will have fun activities, crafts, and events for all ages that acknowledge the wonderful, diverse, and important roles that public libraries play in our lives.

The Friends of Meaford Library have once again generously sponsored the Win with Your Library Card prizes. Pop into the Meaford Public Library and show your active library card to receive a ballot for a chance to win one of the fabulous prizes. Prizes include gift cards to local stores, toys, books, and an OLED Nintendo Switch. One ballot per card. Don’t have a card? Get your free Meaford Public Library card today.

On Sunday, October 15, join Fay and Fluffy Drag Story Time for families at 11 a.m. Then, at 1 p.m. Fluffy Soufflé is hosting Musical Bingo – open to all ages. Fay and Fluffy are story time experts and have been offering drag story times since 2016. As Fluffy said, “Our message is about literacy, supporting community, and family diversity.” This event is generously sponsored by Friends of Meaford Library.

Wildlife and weather photographer David Chapman will be joining the library’s week of events on Tuesday, October 17, 1 p.m. at Meaford Hall. He will be presenting Adventures of Winter Birding, featuring beautiful birds such as the Northern Cardinal, Black Capped Chickadees, Snowy Owls, and more. Generously sponsored by the Well-being Partnership in association with the Municipality of Meaford.

Get wired on Wednesday, October 18. At 2 p.m., learn about the many free online resources available with your library card, such Libby, Mango Languages, CBC Corner, and so much more. Then at 4 p.m., get hands-on experience with some of the tech equipment available at the Meaford Public Library, such as the green screen, dash and dot, Chromebooks, and more.

On Thursday, October 19 at 4 p.m., the library is hosting the Friends of Meaford Library Appreciation Party to thank the Friends for all the hard work and support they give to the library.

Finally, Georgian Bay Reads, the annual Battle of the Books, is on Saturday, October 21 at 7 p.m. at the Collingwood Public Library. Cheer on Meaford Public Library’s defender Elgin Pecjak as he defends We Have Always Been Here by Samra Habib. This is a free event, but tickets are required. Get yours at the Meaford Public Library or online at www.georgianbaysreads.ca.

Some events require registration in advance. Drop by, call the library at 519-538-3500, or email libraryinfo@meaford.ca. Visit www.meaford.ca/library for more details.
