Council Hires New CAO

Four months after the departure of CAO Kymm Buckham, who had served in the position for just six months, Meaford’s council has found a new Chief Administrative Officer, and he will be a familiar face to many in the community as he has worked for the Town of the Blue Mountains for more than 30 years.

The Municipality of Meaford announced on Tuesday afternoon that Shawn Everitt has been appointed as Interim Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) on a two-year contract, beginning April 8, 2025.

We are thrilled to welcome Shawn to the Municipality of Meaford,” said Mayor Ross Kentner. “His proven leadership, dedication to public service, and passion for the South Georgian Bay region make him an excellent fit for our community. We look forward to working together to continue building a strong, vibrant Meaford.”

The municipality noted that as CAO, Everitt will oversee municipal operations, support staff, and work closely with Council to execute its strategic priorities as well as deliver services and programs to Meaford’s residents and businesses.

At the Town of the Blue Mountains Everitt has served as CAO since 2017, first as interim CAO until 2019 when the position became permanent.

The Town of the Blue Mountains announced Everitt’s departure on Tuesday afternoon, coinciding with Meaford’s announcement.

The Town of The Blue Mountains has been extraordinarily fortunate and has benefited greatly to have Shawn Everitt as a dedicated employee for over three decades,” said Town of the Blue Mountains Mayor Andrea Matrosovs in the media release. “I would like to thank Shawn for his dedication, passion and leadership in supporting town initiatives and for guiding and inspiring employees at all levels in the organization. He has helped guide the town through transformational changes and we are truly grateful for his service.”

Everitt said that he is looking forward to working in the municipality.

I’m very excited to get to work and look forward to meeting the team in Meaford,” said Everitt. “This will be a big change after more than 30 years with The Blue Mountains, but I have a deep passion for this incredible region and feel extremely fortunate to have this opportunity.”

The Municipality of Meaford also thanked municipal Treasurer Valerie Manning who has served as interim CAO since late January.
