Ceremony at Owen Sound’s Reconciliation Garden to Honour and Remember Residential School Victims

September 30, is the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation in Canada: a day for reflection and action. We have the opportunity – and the responsibility – to understand and recognize the intergenerational harm to Indigenous peoples that is the ongoing legacy of Canada’s residential schools.

All are invited to come to the Gichi-Name Wiikwedong Reconciliation Garden at Nawash Park in Owen Sound on Friday September 30, to honour and remember those who survived the residential school system, and those children who never returned. A Sacred Fire will be lit, followed by a pipe ceremony, words from a residential school survivor and a youth group, along with drumming and song.

The ceremony starts at 11:00AM, and the fire will remain open for your prayers and offerings of respect and remembrance (provided) until 1:00PM.
