Sir,
‘Save Georgian Bay’ – a somewhat histrionic name for a concerned citizens group, don’t you think? Environmental impact studies of the proposed pumped storage facility at the Meaford tank range are no doubt in order, but does anyone really think that this proposal poses an existential threat to Georgian Bay?
Conversely, climate change does pose an existential threat to life on earth as we know it. Renewable energy generation is part of the effort required to prevent continued increase in atmospheric CO2 levels. However, the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow all the time. The ability to store energy is crucial to making renewable energy generation work.
This is not an occasion for narrow-minded local self-interest.
