As one of the fifty Ontario-wide municipalities which experienced a systems error during open voting for the 2018 municipal election, the Municipality of Meaford will be the recipient of a 20 percent discount from the service provider, Dominion Voting Systems.
On October 22, 2018, during the last hours of voting, members of the public experienced log-in disruptions, preventing voters from casting ballots. The Toronto-based electoral system provider experienced an unapproved bandwidth limit from their internet provider, resulting in the Municipality of Meaford extending voting by one day.
The Municipality is set to receive a return of $3,400 from the overall $17,000 cost for using Dominion Voting Systems as the ballot and voting method.
“Clerks from the affected municipalities worked together and were able to negotiate a fair discount,” said Clerk/Director of Legislative and Protective Services Matt Smith. “I am happy to accept this refund on behalf of the Municipality of Meaford.”
