Letter to the Editor
Editor,
I wish to add a resounding endorsement to what you had to say about living in this country, especially the distinction between rights and privileges.
On July 17th at 2 p.m. I will celebrate 50 years to the minute since I arrived in this unbelievably blessed country and I fell in love with it immediately – a love affair that continues to this day.
It grieves me to hear people complaining about ‘what is wrong’ with this country and sadly it is most often from those who were born here. You will seldom get complaints from an immigrant because we know all too well on which side our bread is buttered, and speaking personally I have enjoyed making my contribution to the success of this land. I also remember the day on which I was eligible to apply for citizenship and the sheer joy of the moment when I pledged allegiance to this country.
We should never, ever take any of this for granted. It truly is an amazing place to live.
