The rainbow flag for Grey Bruce Pride will be raised at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 19 until June 30 at the Owen Sound Community Flag Pole, which is temporarily located at the Bayshore Community Centre during construction at City Hall.
The celebration will be attended by LGBTQ+ individuals as well as their families, friends, and allies. Representatives of federal, provincial, and municipal governments and the Owen Sound police have also been invited to attend this important event, which celebrates Grey Bruce Pride Month and acknowledges Grey-Bruce as a safe and inclusive community for everyone.
The last community flag to fly from City Hall was the Grey Bruce Pride flag in 2005. Unfortunately, this was followed by the introduction of a very restrictive flag policy which was recently rescinded, and a new policy encouraging flags from community groups is now in place.
Grey Bruce Pride (GBP) celebrations (June 13 – July 11) will also include meetings of Pride & Prejudice (a group for LGBTQ+ youth which takes place at the Library), as well as Hats Off to GBP and two movie nights which will take place at the board room of Community Mental Health Association in downtown Owen Sound, with admission by donation.
