Elements of Meaford Celebrates Major Construction Milestone with Traditional Topping-Off Ceremony in Downtown Meaford

A decorated tree was raised above downtown Meaford on Friday, October 23, marking a significant construction milestone for Elements of Meaford, a new three-storey mixed-use development that will bring commercial space and 16 rental apartments to the heart of the heritage downtown.

The celebration brought together the local family and contractors and tradespeople behind the project to recognize the completion of the building’s structural framing. Special guests who joined in the celebration were Meaford Mayor Ross Kenter, Councillor Brandon Forder, and Chamber of Commerce President JD Moffat.

Located across from Meaford Hall, Elements of Meaford represents one of the most significant additions to the downtown streetscape in decades.

The project is being developed by family members Krista Voigt, her husband Robert, and Krista’s sister Nicole Lovrics. Robert and Krista also lead the construction as the general contractors.

For the family, the topping-off celebration was an opportunity to recognize the people and businesses whose expertise, craftsmanship, and commitment are transforming their vision into a reality for Meaford’s vibrant downtown.

Beyond celebrating the construction progress, the occasion highlighted the value of supporting regional businesses. The construction team includes Nichol Project Management, ON EX Limited, Blue Mountain Builders, J967 Building Group, Crozier Consulting Engineers, Tatham Structural Engineers, Shad & Associates Inc, Benedict Electrical, Walker Plumbing, JCM Concrete, Joyce Architecture, Lloyd Hunt Architect, and Thornbury Home Hardware Building Centre. The project is creating local economic activity and drawing upon the considerable building expertise available across southern Georgian Bay.

The celebration featured a centuries-old German tradition of securing a decorated tree to the highest point of the building. This symbolizes gratitude, good fortune and protection, and offers welcoming, prosperity, health and happiness for those involved in the construction and those who will eventually occupy the building.

Once completed, Elements of Meaford will feature 16 residential rental apartments on its upper two floors, with a mix of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and two-bedroom-plus-den layouts.

The ground floor will accommodate commercial units, creating opportunities for new shops and businesses to become part of Meaford’s downtown economy. The development also includes on-site parking behind the building.

Construction will continue through the next stages of building enclosure, exterior finishes and interior work, with occupancy targeted for August 2027.

For the family and construction team, the October 23 event was a celebration of the shared effort required to create something lasting in the community, and optimism for the new neighbours, businesses and activity the development will bring to downtown Meaford.
