Rotary Corner – The Scarecrows Are Coming

Welcome to Rotary Corner, a report to the community from the Rotary Club of Meaford. We want to thank The Meaford Independent for making this possible.

The scarecrows are coming back to Meaford! This year’s Scarecrow Invasion runs from September 9 through October 18. The festival parade will take place on Sykes Street on Friday, October 2 at 6 p.m., followed by the family festival at 6:30 p.m. at the Rotary Harbour Pavilion.

The Rotary Club of Meaford is proud to support, sponsor, and participate in this colourful event. The festival website tells us that, “The Meaford Scarecrow Invasion happens every autumn, when Meaford is invaded by hundreds of scarecrows hanging from lamp posts, posing in windows, and gathering outside Market Square & Meaford Hall. Meaford residents and businesses get in on the fun by making hundreds of scarecrows and decorating the downtown area to reflect the town’s agricultural heritage.”

In this year’s parade, Meaford Rotary president Arlene Stevens will be riding in the rumble seat of a Ford Model A. The car will be surrounded by proud Rotarians as they parade to the harbour pavilion, where club members will provide cupcakes and hot apple cider. We look forward to welcoming the young and the young at heart!
