Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region laid over a thousand speeding charges during the 2026 Labour Day traffic campaign.
This year’s traffic safety education and enforcement campaign targeted the ‘Big Four’ bad driving behaviours: aggressive driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving, and impaired driving. These remain the leading contributing factors to death, injury, and property damage on Ontario roads and highways.
OPP West Region Labour Day traffic campaign charge totals are listed below. Figures from 2025 are in parentheses for comparison.
Between September 4, 2026, and September 7, 2026, OPP West Region officers conducted 2,330 (2,155) traffic stops and laid 2142 (1,601) charges, including the following featured charges:
- Speeding – 1,004 (814)
- Stunt driving – 37 (27)
- Seatbelt – 172 (123)
- Distracted – 11 (5)
- Impaired driving – 52 (50)
